Survivalism is the practice of preparing for a possible future event that may cause you or others to need to find your own food, shelter, and clothing. There are many reasons why people choose to become survivalists. Some do it to prepare for natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods while others prepare for the eventuality that they will be forced to live off the grid for an extended time. There are many thriving survivalist communities around the world where members organize to prepare for emergencies, educate each other on

skills, and share strategies for surviving in the face of adversity.

A true survivalist stockpiles far more skills than supplies. If the gear or weapons cannot be carried on their back or in a rucksack, it is not a part of their shtf plan. Instead of stockpiling massive amounts of shelf-stable like preppers, survivalists plan to fish, snare, forage, and hunt for their meals. While rural preppers also grow up learning a lot of these same food acquisition skills that can be employed during a disaster, they are not relying on them either solely or as heavily as a survivalist. During a mega disaster, there will no longer be hunting seasons.
Also, by preparing for the worst-case scenarios like this, minor inconveniences such as a three-day power outage are already covered. I don’t believe that taking rational steps to deal with a problem means that you’re obsessed with that problem. Are you obsessed with wrecking your car when you put on your seat belt? i don’t think so. To combat this, a lot of preppers store large (or not-so large) supplies of essential items, such as food, medicine, and gas. Stores are created large enough to (hopefully) last them until those supplies are back in supply. Other preppers grow their own crops or set up self-sustaining aquaponics ecosystems so they can be their own grocery store.
